The Regionale Uitvoeringsdienst Zuid-Limburg (South Limburg regional implementing agency) works on behalf of the sixteen municipalities in South Limburg and the Province of Limburg to create a safe and healthy environment for residents and businesses in the South Limburg region.
Why do we need a regional implementing agency?
By combining the knowledge and expertise of staff within the different municipalities and the Province, RUD South Limburg improves quality and professionalism when it comes to granting permits, monitoring, and enforcement in South Limburg. We believe that work to prevent incidents can be done more efficiently, better, and more cheaply. We work with recognized specialists in the region who are well acquainted with this environment. This collaboration also enables the government to better respond to increasingly complex environmental laws and regulations.
RUD South Limburg has been operational since 1 July 2013 and is part of a group of environmental agencies and regional implementing agencies in the Netherlands who are responsible for the implementation of environmental laws.
National agreements
National agreements have been made about the quality of the implementation of granting of permits and monitoring and enforcement in the actual environment. This mainly concerns business activities that may have a serious environmental impact and are characterized by external safety aspects. National quality criteria were established for the implementation of these basic tasks. For companies to which the Major Accidents (Risks) Decree of 1999 (Besluit risico's zware ongevallen, BRZO) applies, the basic tasks are implemented by six RUDs across the Netherlands, including RUD South Limburg.
